We are huge Greek fans here at TVFiends. We love the series, it provides us with a much needed break from the stresses of our lives. Greek is light-hearted, fun and entertaining to watch. Sure the series is not going to win an Emmy, but who cares, we love it anyway.
That being said, this season of Greek has not lived up to the past seasons. Here’s what happened, Greek was on it’s last leg last season. The writers of the series were not sure if Greek would be picked up for another season and the series creator Sean Smith and the writers decided to tie up all the loose ends and pack it up. Casey decided to go to law school, she broke up with Cappie, most of the cast was planning on graduating and everyone seemed to be moving on.
Then the series got picked up for one last season and Greek was forced to backtrack. Casey had to turn down George Washington Law and decided to stay at Cypress Rhodes University (CPU) for Law School with Evan. Cappie is, well, being Cappie. He’s continued to reign as President of KT, after convincing Rusty to back off on his run for President, and we learned that over the summer he hooked up with a bunch of girls. Rebecca is running the ZBZ house, managing her relationship with Evan and appointed Casey as house mother. Dale was still working at ZBZ but he began to realize that he did not fit in with the girls and he came to the conclusion that it’s time to pledge a frat, specifically Omega Chi. And finally Calvin was serving as President of Omega Chi but his frat learned that he tricked them into voting for him as a part of a conspiracy to end the feud with the KTs and he was forced to resign.
Normally all this drama would be entertaining. We would be salivating at the mouth over all the drama Greek managed to create. However, there is something about this series that now seems stale.
This is what happened, the series was done, the Greek writers did a great job wrapping everything up and then at the last minute the network decided why not give it one more season and the writers had to undo everything they did last season. Now as a result the story lines, plots and scenarios seem forced and contrived.
We don’t really understand the choices the characters are making. This season created a lot of questions for us. Questions such as, why is Cappie still fighting to be the KT president? Why is Casey turning down George Washington Law to go to CRU law? Why is Rebecca letting Casey return as house mother? Why is Dale pledging?
In order to revitalize this season the writers needed to have all the characters make a series of poor and/or out of character choices. The drama that resulted from these choices is mildly entertaining but not at all believable. For example, we don’t believe Casey would stay at CRU, we don’t believe Rebecca would let her be house mother and we especially don’t believe that Dale would ever pledge. Sorry Greek, we don’t believe it. And since the plot is so unbelievable the series is hard to watch and even harder to be entertained by.
We love Greek and maybe if they had known they were coming back they would have created a great fourth season, unfortunately that was not the case and now the series is making a 7th Heaven mistake that is threatening to destroy the legacy of the series.
Unless something dramatic changes, this season of Greek will be the worse season yet. At the end of the day we blame the network for their decision to renew too late. The writers of Greek did a great job with last season’s finale and they are making the best of the situation that the network created. We really hope things work out well for Greek, in fact we are fully expecting the series to get back on track after things get settled down, but as of right now, this season is shaping up to be the worse season of Greek yet.
