larissa Explain it All was…yes… now remember how good Blossom was and how you would spend hours with your friends debating which one was better? Now imagine if they came together and Clarissa and Joey reunited years later? Wouldn’t that be awesome? Yea… that’s Melissa and Joey.
Recently we have been in a very dark and lonely place. Without Pretty Little Liars we are not sure what to do on Tuesday nights. So this week we put our nose to the grind and came up with a list of possible replacements to fill the void that Pretty Little Liars left on Tuesday. Our new favorite Tuesday night shows below
1. Make It or Break It:
Premise: Secret Life of the American Teenager meets Push
Cat fights, love triangles and gymnastics, Make It or Break It is one of the most underappreciated ABC Family shows. They have been attempting to get viewers hooked on the teenage gymnastic drama by including teasers for other popular ABC Family shows, i.e. Secret Life of the American Teenager, Greek and Pretty Little Liars, in between the first commercial break for the show but still has issues getting a large fan base.
What we love about Make it or Break it is that the girls actually have a goal, they want to go the Olympics. They are not always chasing boys, although in recent episodes the girls have gone girl crazy and they are actually doing something productive (no we don’t count trying to solve your best frienemies murder as doing something productive).
2. Melissa and Joey
Premise: Whose the Boss minus Mona
What could be better than having two of our favorite child star reunite? Watching them reunite in a sitcom that is cheesy that is surprisingly not that bad. Remember how amazing C
The show is surprisingly amusing. It’s the right length, you don’t have to endure 1 hour of slapstick comedy and that’s probably a good thing because if the show went a minute longer it probably would be exhausting and irritating to watch. Melissa and Joey are over the top but are still endearing and entertaining to watch. Watching Melissa and Joey is liking finding a piece of perfectly wrapped candy in your couch after a long day. It’s the perfect little break to the work week.
3. The Colony
Premise: Lost meets Survivor
What would happen if the world ended tomorrow, would you be able to work with Darwin’s favorites and rebuild a society from scratch? The Colony tackles that question head on.
Imagine, a group of people, abandoned in 9th Ward post-Katrina New Orleans, no water, a little bit of food, no electricity… can you imagine what that would look like? Great… now imagine if the producers of a reality show created that and then did everything in their power to ensure they felt scared and unsafe.
The Colony is great because the producers don’t just abandon people and wait for drama to happen, they manufacture drama for them on a day to day basis. Even better, the drama they create is never small for example in the first couple of days they sent in intruders, next intruders with smoke bombs and pepper spray, next they sent in more colonist, last night they kidnapped one of the colonist.
Of course, the producers were smart enough to get a waiver so The Colonist lost all right to sue the show for the intentional inflicition of emotional distress they are enduring but what the producers seem to forget is that even though the show is not real, Post-Tramatic stress is very real. These people are never going to have another good night of rest in their lives.
4.
Teen Mom
An oldie but a goody. Remember how much you despised Farrah before this season? Now remember how you kind of feel bad for her this season? Remember how much you respected and admired Catelynn and Tyler? Now remember how you want to throw your couch at the TV every time the come on the screen this season with their make up to break up drama? Remember how these teenagers have kids but the producers continuously remind us they are still a little irresponsible by showing us scenes where the kids are alone and manage to injure themselves (cough cough… Ryan how did Bentley fall off the chair, Farrah how Sophia fall off the bed, Leah where are your parents 95% of the time).
Watching Teen Mom this season is like watching The Real World post Las Vegas, where there was actually a point where people stopped being polite and started getting real. The show gets more and more entertaining every episode and it does what good reality shows should do, make people say to themselves “do people actually live like this?”
